Annes Best Friend

Teaching Objectives

1. Students can identify and utilize these words and expressions describing surrounding and feeling ,such as ,grow crazy about , spell bound , it is no pleasure looking through , a deep blue sky , at dusk , dark ,rainy, windy and thundering cloud and so on .

2. Students can infer Anne’s feeling from classifying the description of bright and dark surroundings , and also the background information .

3. Students will be able to understand the writing skill in which the feeling is delivered by the description of surrounding .

4. Students can write a diary by using the its form and language appeared in the passage .

T shows Ss pictures and ask them the  following questions

T: classplease look at the pictures here .

Q1 : What are they doing ?

S : they are playing together on the playground

( yes , that means they are playing together outdoors )

   They are telling some secrets they are under  to each other .

(well , that means they are telling a series of secrets they are going through to each other )

   They help each other in learning face to face .

Q2 : what is the relationship between them ?  

S :  they are friends .

T :  yesdefinitelythey are friends.

Q: Does a friend always have to be a person ?   

please tell about your unusual friend .

S : my friend is a cat . I can play with it .

   My friend is a book . it tells me a lot about the world .

T: wow , my dear class , you do have a variety of unusual friends .  

过渡: today , let us learn who Anne’s friend is .  

Please turn to M1U1 , Anne’s best friend .

Plan B :

Background information

Q1: why did Anne and her family have to hide away ?(再次寻读技能)

(hintplease pay attention to the capitalized words ) 

S : because during WWII, German Nazis caught and killed Jewish people once they were found .

Q5 : why Anne set down her feeling instead of a series of facts ?

S : may be she was afraid of Nazis .

T : (what else )

  May be she was frightened  .

T : by what ?

S : Nazis’ capture and killing  

T: anything else ?

S : because under threat of Nazis’ capture and killing , she felt frightened and treated the  diary as  his best friend . so she preferred to tell the diary the deepest feeling while being under the pressure.

T : bravo , you are really an excellent reader .

过渡: nowlet us read Anne’s diary again

Diary part  

Q1 : In her diary , Anne described the surrounding vividly in detail .

Could you find all words and expressions  in terms of the “description “of the surroundingin the diary ?

S:  a deep blue sky   The song of the birds ,

moonlight, flowers , the moon gave far too much light ,

at dusk ,  the  dark raining  evening ,

the wind , the thundering clouds , dirty curtains , dusty windows .

T : yesbravoyou are careful readers .  

Q2 : work in pairs  and divide these words and expressions in two catalogues and tell the reason.

S:

group 1  : deep blue sky   The song of the birds , moonlight, flowers ,(板书一部分)

group2 : the moon gave far too much light , at dusk ,  the  dark raining  evening ,

the wind , the thundering clouds , dirty curtains , dusty windows . (板书一部分) 

T: good division .  can you tell the reasons ? any volunteer ?(环顾四周,然后鼓励)

  just have a try , don’t be shy .

(inspiring: ok , when you are under  the deep blue sky , you feel it is….. environment

    If you are under thundering cloud  , it is….. environment )

T: yes , great .  

Q3 : the contrast  between the two different description of surrounding is meant to reflect _________?

S : sad , Depressed ,(板书其中一个)

S : frightened  , scared  (板书其中一个)

(inspiring anything else ? when you stay at this dusty world , you could not talk to someone else , you feel…..?)

S :lonely (板书)

T : yeswe  can see Anne was depressed ,scared, lonely  .

Q4 : as we know an  ordinary diary is where most people like to set down a series of facts , but Anne wrote down her deepest feelings and thoughts in her diary .

 Can you find out all the descriptions about Anne’s feeling ?

S1 : I ‘ve grown so crazy about everything to do with nature

……could never have kept me spellbound

I stayed awake on purpose until half past eleven,

 I didn’t dare open a window

It’s no pleasure looking through these any longer (板书)

Q5 : answer the following questions based on the descriptions about Anne’s feelings .

According to the diary ,

why was Anne so crazy about everything to do with nature ?

S : because she had been indoors too long ,she was so eager to see the outdoor world .

Why did Anne stay awake until very late one evening ?  

S: Because she wanted to have a good look at the bright moon  .

Why did Anne no longer just like looking at nature out of the window ?

S: because she did not want to be a prisonerin the hiding place any longer. She wanted a normal life again .  

what can you infer from the descriptions of Anne’s feelings ?

S : we can  see that war and the German Nazis separated Anne from the outside world , which made Anne eager for friends , freedom, and eager to experience nature in person .(板书)

Writing a diary

T asks Ss to writ a dairy with words and expressions .

T : let’s imagine if Anne regained freedom after the war , what would she feel and do ?

Please write a short diary in the name of Anne , describing  nature in her eyes and her deep feeling  .
 your diary should cover descriptions of bright surroundings and feeling of freedom and starting a new life   

Before writing , you can discuss with you desk mate and work out an outline .

Ten minutes for you ,at least 50words  . here we go .

S :( alice)  after regaining the freedom ,I could enjoy the bright  surrounding and feel the freedom again .

  (学生作品)Every morning , the song of birds springs up in my ears. Under  the deep blue sky , the well-scented flower is uncontrollably  and enjoyably haunting around my nose. In the evening ,  I am so crazy about the  moon and flower  that that I feel it is pleasure being wandering outdoors .  even in the dark ,rainy , thundering night , I dare to open the door  .   ………….

2  在此基础上,让学生找出安妮的心境
