Unit 5 The power of nature

                           (说课稿)

The First Period Reading

Explanation for the outline of teaching design

Firstly, I make the students realize the great power of nature by listing some natural disasters. Then I focus on one of them—volcano eruption to attract their interest. Third, I tell them there is a new but adventurous job—volcanologist. I ask them to read the whole text within 10 minutes and get the main idea and topic of each part. Then I make them read each part carefully to get detailed information of the text. At last I evaluate this result.

Analysis of teaching background

About the teaching content: The title of this unit is the power of nature. The teacher should make the students realize the great power of nature. They should learn how to describe their feelings after experiencing the natural disasters. They should think about the correct attitude and methods to deal with these disasters. And they also need to promote the awareness of protecting themselves.

The reading is the basic and most important part in the unit. It tells the students about the job as a volcanologist. It describes the grand and wonderful scenes of volcano eruption and the mood when seeing it at the 1st time. The reading shows the fun from nature when you get along well with it. The reading also expresses the significance of this job.

About my students: Their vocabulary is small. The ability and skills of reading are not good. Most of them only can recognize some easy words or phrases. They often stop and give up reading if meeting any difficulty. Even if some of them can finish the reading, they usually get confused about the main idea and only know some unimportant information about the reading text.

Enable the students to learn about the powerful natural force — volcano and the work of a volcanologist.

第一步:热身活动(导入)                                                      

提出问题:如何看待人类的力量?

人类作为万物之灵,地球的统治者,力量是伟大的。人类可以利用自然,改造自然为自身服务。但是对于突发的自然灾害,如火山爆发,台风,地震等,人类就束手无策了。与大自然的力量相比,人类又是弱小的。

设计意图:通过提问,引起学生思考人与自然关系的问题,为学习课文作好铺垫。

第二步:展示幻灯片

本单元关注其中一种自然灾害——火山爆发。引人词组volcano eruptionvolcanologist

(火山专家)。

设计意图:引出与课文相关话题,通过让学生观看火山爆发的壮观景象,初步了解火山爆发的特点。

第三步:略读

要求学生们在十分钟内快速阅读课文,基本知道文章的主旨大意,以及结构层次和段落大意。借助完形填空,既可以降低难度,又可突显关键词。大部分学生经过一年多的学习,能够比较容易地做出该题。

设计意图:根据英语文章的特点,在把握整体内容的前提下,才能深入理解文章细节,使局部与整体相互照应,相得益彰。

第四步:跳读

通过选择题这一常见题型,突出了与文章内容相关的重要信息。

设计意图:强化阅读技巧训练。

第五步:细读

采用简答题形式,加强对细节信息的理解。逐步深入、拓宽对重要词汇的记忆,对常见句型的熟悉和运用。

设计意图:进行文章细读可以深化理解,强化记忆。

第六步:复习巩固

采用完形填空,对课文主要内容进行小结。

设计意图:用概括性的语言,常见的词句对课文主要内容进行小结,既回顾了课文,又强化了对词、句、篇的理解和运用,便于学生记忆。
