Teaching objectives:

By the end of the class students are supposed to be able to:

1. have a good understanding of the text and finish all the tasks. 

2. scan the text to extract specific information and introduce Chinese paper cut in their own words.

3. show interests in traditional folk art and consciousness to protect them.

Warming up 

Show students some simple paper crafts made by me.

Enjoy some simple paper crafts made by me.

To arose students’ interest.

Extensive reading

Teach students some reading strategies: to read the first, last or the middle sentence of the paragraph to catch the general idea. 

Match the general idea with each paragraph.

To practice students’ extensive reading ability.

Intensive reading

Teach students some reading strategies: to find the key words.

Find out more specific information about paper-cutting, then fill out the blanks.

To practice students’ intensive reading ability.

Post-reading

I have got six pieces of paper cuts of three different subjects. 

Each group chooses one then work in groups to discuss and introduce it to other students. 

To practice students’  ability of speaking.

 History: Paper-cutting is a Chinese folk art with a long history. It dates back to the Northern and Southern Dynasty.

The three types   paper cuts used for religious purposes  

1) found in temples               

2)  used as offerings to the dead

               Paper cut used for design patterns
