Unit 2 Standard English and dialects

一.教学目标:

Teaching aims

1.Knowledge objectives:1)After the class,students can recognize and recite the words:expression,play a part in and so on.2)Students can grasp their Chinese meanings.

2.Ability objects:1)Student can learn to read by some reading skills,skimming,scanning and so on.2)Students can answer the questions according to the passage correctly by pair work and group work.

3.Affective objectives:Students can know various English accents from different countries and cultivate intercultural awareness.

二.学情分析

Analysis of students studying situation

    Our school is an urban senior high school so our students has the English basic knowledge.The students in class 5 are more active.So we further motivate the students to say something about the topic and to make presentations.

三.重点难点

Teaching important and difficult points:

1)Students will be able to read and write the words and phrases:expression,play a part in,midwestern.

2)Students can learn to find out the key information and key sentences through skimming and detailed reading.

四.教学过程:

活动一:【热身】Warm up

Watch a video clip and find out the words that have the same meanings.

Biscuit and cookie

Mobile phone and cellphone

Chip and chip

Football and soccer.

活动二:【活动】Point out the countries

Point out the countries on the map.

Britain,America,Australia,New Zealand,India

活动三:【活动】Skimming and scanning

Skim the passage and underline the topic sentences of each paragraph.

para.1:There is no such thing as Standard English.

para.2When people use words and expression different from the Standard English,it is called a dialect.

Para.3:Geography also plays a part in making dialects.

活动四:【活动】Detailed reading

Read para.1 and answer the question.

Q:In writers opinion,is there a standard English?

Read para.2 and para.3.Fill in the blanks.

活动五:【活动】Make up a conversation

Read the dialogue on P13 and circle the different words that have the same meanings.

subway/underground,straight on/go straight, street/block,left-hand side/on the left

The teacher asks the students to immitate the conversation make presentations.

    Discuss in groups.Why should we learn English?

活动七:【活动】Homework

Write a paragraph to express why we should learn English.

教学反思:本课从活跃课堂气氛,阅读教学,读后活动,小组讨论几个方面启发学生思维,让学生在读后活动中锻炼口语。本节课主要锻炼了学生听说和读的能力,一定程度上忽视了写作能力的训练。本单元的主题比较有趣,课堂设置的活动可以启发学生的思维,让学生对英语学习产生极大的兴趣,拓展学生的知识面,让学生了解美式英语和英式英语的一定差别。。
