Step 1　准备与热身(Preparation)

In 2b，ask students to read the following passage.

And match each paragraph with its main purpose.Underline the words and phrases that helped you decide.

Step 2　呈现与输入 (Presentation)

Read the passage in 2b again. Ask the students to choose, then write the letters (A～F) in the correct places in the passage in 2b.

Step 3　练习与体验 (Practice)         

In 2d, ask and answer the questions with short sentences according to the passage in 2b.

In 2e, ask the students to find the following phrases in the passage in 2b，then write your own sentences with them.

Step 4　运用与生成 (Production)

Phrases: have to do with; make promises;  have something in common; write down; for this reason; take up.

be able to do表示“能，会”与can的区别：

①can只有两种时态， 即can 和could, 而be able to 有多种时态。

②表示过去通过努力终于做成了某事要用be able to，而不能用can。

③can能表猜测，be able to不能。can的这种用法主要用于疑问句和否定句。

When we make resolutions at the beginning of the year, we hope that we are going to improve our lives.当我们做新年决心时，我们希望将来提高我们的生活。

beginning是begin的名词形式，意为“开始；开端”，其反义词为end。the beginning of…意为“……的开始”。at the beginning of“在……的开始；在……之初”，其反义词组为at the end of，意为“在……末端；在……结尾”。

Sometimes the resolutions may be too difficult to keep.有时，决心很难去坚持。
