课题: book1 unit5 Nelson Mandela— a Modern hero Reading
一、教学内容分析
This reading tells us the unfair treatment that the south African suffered and what they did for the equality. Also it introduces Nelson Mandela between 1952 and 1963, presenting the good qualities Mandela has. So, after learning this lesson, students will be able to know what contributions Nelson Mandela made to realizing the dream of making black and white people equal, also they will understand what makes a good person, and try to be a good person.
二、教学目标
1. Knowledge aims: Get the students to learn the new words and expressions such as hero, quality, active, lose heart, be in trouble and so on.
2. Ability aims: Develop the students’ reading abilities and let them use some reading strategies such as skimming, scanning and so on.
3. Emotional aims: Enable the students to know the qualities a great person should have.
三、学习者特征分析
As senior one students, they may have some difficulties in learning English. Some adapt to the new stage well, but some feel it somewhat hard to remember the new words or understand the passages. So these students may not be able to follow the others in classes, and they seldom answer questions voluntarily. So it is very important to encourage them to take an active part in class activities.

Step 1 Greeting
T: Good morning, everyone!
S: Good morning,teacher!
Step 2 Lead-in
1. Have the students listen to a song, and try to finish the blanks on the paper.[before class, give each student a piece of paper with incomplete lyric.]
[设计意图:通过 “hero”这首歌,引出本节课的话题——great people,同时通过填歌词,能够训练学生的听力技能。]
2. Ask the students “What is the song about?” “What kind of people can be called a hero?”
[Give the students some useful expressions to help them express their opinions.]
[设计意图:通过这些表达可以帮助学生适当地表达个人的观点。]
3. Present some persons and ask the students whether they are great people. Then introduce Nelson Mandela.
Step 3 Fast reading
Ask the students to make a guess according to the title before reading
Step 4 Careful reading
1. Divide the passage into two parts and find out the main idea of each part.
[Tell the students that there are totally five paragraphs in the passage, and try to divided according to the change of Elias’s life. ]
Part I: The life of Elias he met
(Para. 1-2) Nelson Mandela.
He about being out of work.
Part II: The change of Elias’ life he
(Para. 3-5) met Nelson Mandela and what Mandela did.
He became about his future.
2. Read the passage carefully and answer the following questions.
1) Why did Elias visit Nelson Mandela?
2). What can we learn from Elias’ bad experience?
3). What were black people’s problems at that time?
4). What did Mandela do to help black people?
[suggested answers:
1).Because he needed legal help. He was not legally allowed to work without a passbook. He did not have one because he was not born in Johannesburg. Nelson Mandela was able to help him get the passbook.
2).Black people were unfairly treated; they suffered a lot at that time.
3). ①. They couldn’t vote.
②. They couldn't get the right they wanted.
③. They were sent to live in the poorest areas
4).By offering guidance to them on legal problems, and answer violence with violence.]
3. Ask the students to think why Mandela decided to answer violence with violence.
[suggest answer: because he felt there was no other better way of changing this unfair situation.]
4. Ask the students two questions about Elias.
5). What is Elias’ reaction to Mandela?
6). How did he support Mandela?
[suggest answer:

6)He joined the ANC Youth League and helped Mandela blow up some government buildings.]
5. Find out the great qualities of Mandela according to the passage.
[List some sentences on the PPT, and ask the students what qualities Mandela has. For example:He was a black lawyer who offered guidance to poor black people on their legal problems.]
Step 5 Consolidation
Have a small competition
[Divide the students into two groups, and tell them the rules to be obeyed in the competition.]
Step 6 Have a discussion
[Tell the students: just as the song says that there is hero lies in you. Maybe he is just as common as other people, but he is the one who influences you a lot. So try to think the one who influences you most, and discuss with you partner, then I will invite someone to share with us. If you have some questions, please raise your hands, I am ready to help you.]
Give the students some minutes to discuss, offering help if needed, then invite some students to share their opinions.
Step 7 Homework
1). Read “Notes to the text” for U5 (P84-86).
2). Write a short passage about Nelson Mandela.

九.教学反思
可以从如下角度进行反思(不少于200字):
这节课主要通过“hero”这首歌引出本堂课的话题,在这环节中,我设计了填歌词这一环节,目的是让训练学生的听力技能,提高听歌的价值。但是在听的过程中我发现,很少有学生能够把所有空填出来的,之后呈现歌词,让学生校对。然后通过英雄所应该有的品质,让学生同桌之间进行提问和回答,让学生尽可能地使用表达观点的句式,再向学生介绍一些伟人,引出该节课的中心任务-曼德拉。阅读部分主要分为三块,一是对文章总体结构的把握,二是对文章内容进行提问,该部分的问题的设计是一步步深入的。三是一个小竞赛,牧师是对文章进行复习和巩固。读后部分,我设计了一个讨论-对你印象最深的人,这也和开头相呼应。最后是作业的布置。
在这节课,我觉得讨论部分还是比较贴近学生的生活的,所以学生的兴致比较高,讨论很热烈。但是在比赛一环节,虽然学生的积极性很高,但是有点小失控。原因是学生对游戏的规则没有完全理解。因此,在设计游戏环节的时候,向学生陈述游戏规则很重要。
