My New Teachers教学设计

一、Analysis of the teaching material

This lesson is chosen from Module 2 of student’s book 1, it is a reading lesson. The topic of this reading is My New Teachers. It is related to students’ daily life and familiar with our students, so students will be interested in learning it and will be willing to take part in the class. After learning this passage, students are supposed to master some useful adjectives to describe people and can use these words and expressions to write their own teachers.

二、Analysis of the students

Since they have learned English for many years, most of them have English foundation.Meanwhile, this topic of the reading material is about teacher with whom they are familiar so they will have more to say while learning this passage. However, most of them are not fluent in English and lack of confidence in English learning. Therefore, I should give them some help and encourage them more in English learning.

三、Teaching aims

1、Make sure that students can understand the general idea of this passage and master the key words and phrases in the passage.

2、students can find the personalities of the three teachers and finish the exercises after reading.

3、Develop students reading ability of skimming and scanning.

4、Arouse the students feelings to their teachers and get along with their teachers.

Task-based teaching method, pwp teaching method

五、Teaching procedures

Step 1 revision

Guide students to review the words in Introduction on page 11. First, ask students to speak out these words one by one. Then show them these adjectives on ppt. (this part not only intends to review the words they have learned but also can provide them some adjectives when describing their teachers in next part.)

Step 2 Lead-in

Show students some photos of their teachers and ask them to work in groups and describe their first impressions on these teachers, then each group chooses one students to share their sentences. they can use the words that we have just reviewed. Then lead in the passage of My New Teachers.

Step 3 Reading

1、Fast-reading:

(1)read the passage quickly and answer the following questions:

How many teachers are mentioned in this passage?

What subject does each teacher teach?

(2) read the passage again and match the main idea with each paragraph.

 Para1 Mrs. Li is a good teacher because she is kind, patient and tolerant.

 Para2 Mrs. Chen is a strict but good teacher because her teaching is well organized and clear.

 Para3Mr. Wu is a good teacher because he is good-looking, energetic and humorous.

2、Careful-reading:

Activity 1:read the passage again and do true of false and answer the questions.

Activity 2read the passage once more and fill in the chart.

Step 4 Summary

Ask students to read the passage again and work in pairs to discuss which teacher in the passage they would like to have and explain why.

Step 5 Homework

Ask students to write a passage of their favourite teachers.
