[教学内容]
本课为中等职业教育课程改革国家规划新教材《英语》(基础模块 语文出版社)下册第七单元的一篇阅读课文。本阅读材料是有关吸烟有害健康、呼吁人们戒烟的内容,此话题贴近高中生的生活实际,通过本节课的学习,有助于培养学生良好的生活习惯。其中的一些常用语句与学生的实际生活紧密相连,通过学习,训练学生对整个篇章的理解和在阅读中提取信息的技能,并在对课文理解的基础上,掌握重要的词汇和语句的用法。
Teaching aims:
Knowledge aims:
1.Get students to learn the useful new words and expressions in the text.
2.To master the following sentence patterns: It won’t be very long before…, ….has … effects on…, not only…but also… etc.
3.The basic use of the modal verbs.

Step1: Greet the whole class as usual
Step2: Revision (3 minutes)
The teacher shows some new words and expressions about smoking on the screen and let the students read them.
Step3: Warming-up and Lead-in (4 minutes)
( show some pictures )At first, show the students some pictures about the common warning signs on the screen and let them read the signs to see if they can speak out their meanings.
T: Please look at the screen, there are some warning signs on it, after a while, please speak out their meanings.
Then the teacher shows another some pictures about smoking.
T: As we all known, smoking is almost forbidden in every city of the world, smoking has bad effects on our bodies. Today we are going to study a text about smoking. (write the topic on the blackboard)
Step4: Fast-reading (6 minutes)
T: Please open your books and turn to Page 60, read the text in 4 minutes as quickly as you can to find the main idea of the text and the answers to the questions on the screen. (show a courseware)
The questions:
1.Do you usually see many people smoking in public areas?
2.Can people smoke in cinemas, department stores or hospitals now in China?
3.What daily habits are not considered “healthy habits”?
4.What do you say to persuade smokers to give up smoking?
After a while, the teacher asks some students to answer the above questions to check the answers.
Suggested answers:
1.Yes, we can see many people smoking in daily lives.
2.No, they can’t.
3.Smoking, drinking are not healthy habits.
4. To live longer, give up smoking.
Step5: Translation (5 minutes)
After fast-reading, ask some students passage to passage to translate the text to let them know the content of the text. At the same time, the teacher checks the translation.
Step6: Careful-reading (8 minutes)
Ask the students to read the text more carefully again, find out some important expressions and language points and answer the questions on the screen.
The questions:
1.What daily habits do people usually have?
2.How does smoking attack the smoker’s body?
3.Why is smoking also harmful to those who don’t smoke?
4. Is there a polite way of saying “No smoking”?
After a while, the teacher checks the students’ answers.
Suggested answers:
1.Smoking, drinking, playing cards, doing exercises, watching TV, etc.
2.When smoke is breathed in, poisonous elements in the smoke attack the body.
3.When a person smokes, people around are forced to breathe in the smoke, and become passive smokers.
4.Thank you for not smoking.
Step7: Playing games (5 minutes)
During the following 5 minutes, divide the students into four groups and let them discuss how to give up smoking. If one group can speak out one way, give this group a red flay of painting.
Step8: Language points (7 minutes)
Find the important expressions and sentence patterns in the text and the teacher explains them to the students.

eg: The medicine has a good effect on the growth of children.
2. It won’t be long before…“在…前时间不会很长”“过了不久就…”。
eg: It won’t be very long before the people can live a better life.
3. case “情况,案例”。in many cases “在很多情况下”,in that case “如果是那样的话”,in no case “在任何情况下都不”。
eg: In many cases, he tells lies.
4. as soon as possible “尽快”。as+形容词+as possible “尽可能…地”。
eg: We should finish the work as soon as possible.
5.not only…but also… “不但…而且…”。
eg: She is not only beautiful but also very smart.

Step9: Practice (5 minutes)
Show some questions on the screen and ask the students to finish them .(Show a courseware)
Translate the following sentences into English.
1.吸烟可能导致肺癌。( lead to )
2.我希望自己能戒烟。( give up )
3.请尽快给我写信。( as…as possible )
4.不久我们就能乘地铁出行了。( It’s not long before)
5.多读对你的英语口语有好处。( have good effect on )
Step10: Summary (1 minute)
In this class, we know that why and how smoking does harm to smokers and non-smokers, we also learn to read some common warning signs in daily lives and some important and difficult language points of the text.
Step11: Homework (1 minute)
1.Retell the text.
2.To find more information about smoking on the Internet and report to the other students in the next class.

教学反思:
在本节课的教学过程中,充分体现了“以学生为主体,教师为主导”的教学原则,积极调动了学生的积极性和参与性,想方设法地使他们投入并融入到课堂活动中;一改过去“填鸭式”的教学方式,真正体现师生互动、生生互动。不足之处是贯彻教学原则的力度不足、深度不够,如深入些效果更佳。
