Topic 1 How old are you?
Teaching Content: Section A
Teaching Aims:
1. Learn the numeral words:
eleven, twelve, thirteen, fourteen, fifteen, sixteen, seventeen, eighteen, nineteen, twenty.
2. Learn some new words: class, grade, English, old, a, an, these, those…
3. Learn to talk about age, class, grade and some other personal information:
(1)How old are you?
I am twelve years old.
(2)What class are you in?
I am in Class Four, Grade Seven.
Teaching Points:
1. Students can learn and grasp the numeral words:
eleven, twelve, thirteen, fourteen, fifteen, sixteen, seventeen, eighteen, nineteen, twenty.
2. Students can read and recite the new words in section A.
3. Students can understand and grasp the usage of some new sentence structures:
-What is this/that in English?
-It’s a/an……
-What class/grade are you in?
-I’m in Class Four, Grade Seven.
-How old are you?
-I’m twelve years old.
-Are you in Class Four, too?
-No, I’m not. I’m in Class Five.
Teaching Difficulties:
1. Students can read and recite the numeral words, and other new words.
2. Students can understand and grasp the usage of some new sentence structures.
3. Students can use the new sentence structures to introduce themselves.

Tape Recorder; Multimedia Courseware; Word Cards
Teaching Procedure:
Step 1 Warming Up
1. (1)First, let students review the words and sentences in last topic. Students read the words for three times, and then ask some students to recite the important sentences.
(2)Ask several students to write numeral words on the blackboard.
2. (1)Let students make up new conversations and practice the conversations in groups.
-S1: What’s your name, please?
-S2: My name is S2.
-S1:Are you from Canada?
-S2: No, I’m from China. Where are you from?
-S1: I’m from China, too.
(2)Look at some pictures, and ask students to answer some questions.
-T: Who is he?
-Ss: He is Michael.
-T: Is he from China?
-Ss: No, He isn’t.
-T: Where is he from?
-Ss: He’s from America.
Step 2 Presentation
1. (1)Look at the picture, and ask students to answer some questions.
-T: Look at this picture. Who is se?
-Ss: She is Jane.
-T: Where is she from?
-Ss: She is from Canada.
-T: And how old is she?
(Students can not answer the last question.)
(2)Teach students the new words of section A, and learn about the Chinese meanings.

2. (1)Listen to the tape of 1a, and repeat the conversation. Pay attention to the pronunciation and intonation.
(2)Read the conversation of 1a.
-Hello, I’m Li Ming! What's your name?
-My name is Jane.
-I am twelve years old. How old are you?
-I’m twelve, too.
-What class are you in?
-I’m in Class Four, Grade Seven. Are you in Class Four, too?
-No, I’m not. I’m in Class Five.
3. (1)Teach the new sentence structures.
-I’m twelve years old.
-How old are you?
-What class are you in?
-I’m in Class Four, Grade Five?
-Are you in Class Four, too?
(2)Read the conversation together, and try to translate it into Chinese.
Step 3 Practice
1. (1)Listen to the tape again, try to read the conversation following the tape.
(2)Practice the conversation in groups, and act it out.
2. (1)Listen to 1a and complete Jane’s name card. Then ask students to make name card of themselves.

Teaching Reflection:
In this class, students learn to talk about age, class, grade and other personal information. Then they grasp the numeral words: eleven, twelve, thirteen, fourteen, fifteen, sixteen, seventeen, eighteen, nineteen, twenty, learn some new words in section A, and grasp the usage of some new sentence structures. Students learn this section well.
