Unit 1   Can you play the guitar?

The Third Period (Section B, 1a–1f)

Teaching aims (教学目标)

    1. 学习有管乐器的名词。

    2. 学会表达演奏乐器的短语。

    3. 能使用cancan’t谈论某个人的能力。

  4. 理解听力材料。

Language points  (语言点)

    1. 词汇:1)名词n. drum, piano, violin

               2)短语.  play the drums, play the piano, play the violin

    2. 句型:Can Bill play the guitar?

           Yes, he can, but he can’t sing.

Difficulties (教学难点)

    1. 新单词的拼写及发音。

    2. play当弹奏时的用法。

Teaching steps (教学步骤)

Step 1. Warm-up and revision(课堂热身和复习)

1).Watch a video

Chant and sing together.

2)Have a dictation about the words and phrases of last class.

3)Review more key points of last class and then lead in the new words.

Step 2. Presentation

1)     Teach the new words.

2)     Take out the word cards and let the students read the words.

3)     Memory challenge.

Step 3 .Work on 1a and 1b

1)     Draw lines to match the words and the pictures.

2Listen and number the words1-4 in the order of the sounds you hear in 1a.

Step 4 Pairwork

1)     Show the word cards again.

2)     Play card games.

One student do the action,the other student guess the instrument,then make conversations.

e.g.-Can you play the guitar?

   -Yes,I can.

   -Can you play it well?/Are you good at playing it?

-Yes,I can play it well./No,I can’t play it well.

-Yes,I’m good at playing it./No,I’m not good at playing it.

 

-Can you play the guitar?

-No,I can’t.

-What can you do

-I can…

3) Write the students’ name on the cards.

Step 5.Listening

1) Listen to the tape and choose the main idea of the conversation.

2) Listen and circle the words and phrases you hear.

3) Listen again.Fill in the charts with the words and phrases in 1d.

   4)Listen again and repeat the sentences sentence by sentence.

5)Check the answers.

Step 6. Work on 1f

Talk about what Bill,Cindy , Frank and yourselves can and can’t do .

e.g.-What can you do?

   -I can…and…,but I can’t…or…

   -Can Bill play the guitar?

   -Yes,he can,but he can’t sing./No,he can’t,but he can…

Step 7.Groupwork

  T: If you can play the piano,then you can join the art club.

    Divide the students into eight groups.

    Let students join their favorite clubs.

e.g.- Can I help you?

   - Yes,please.I want to join the sports club.

   - Can you play basketball?

   - Yes,I can.

   - So come and join us.

Step 8. Affective Education

1)         Talk about some great men.

2)         Collect some information about wheelchair tennis.

3)         Teach students understand the philosophy of life.

Step 9.Homework

1).Remember the new words of this class.

2)Make conversations with the instruments.
