Unit8 Lesson1 Adventure Holidays

1General introduction

This lesson is taken from Module Three, Senior English for China by Beijing Normal University. This lesson is about the reading part.By learning this passage, the students can master some language points and reading skills.

2Teaching aims and demands

1).Vocabulary: raft, horizon, organization, route, porter, luggage, accommodation, hostel, maximum, altitude, extra, optional, differ, footprint, anxious.

2).Phrase: white-water rafting, right now, on the horizon,

3).Speaking skills discuss your adventure experiences. With the use of new words and expressions .

What can we learn from the climbers of Qomolangma? Is if safe to climb a mountain without joining a group? What should we pay attention to about Hiking?

We will finish this lesson in 3 classes. This is the reading class.

Teaching procedures

Step1 Warming up

Greetings. Review last class, and smoothly start the new lesson .

Now adventure holiday is more and more popular.

Which of these holidays would you like to go on?

A canoeing and white-water rafting in Yunnan

B trekking and climbing in the Himalayas

C doing watersports in Hainan Island.

D an oveland safari in Tanzania.

Give students some pictures .Ask students to give reasons for their choice.

Step2 reading

Task 1 Read the brochure and match the paragraphs (1-7)with the topics. ( the aim is to train students to master main idea of the paragraph) . Then listen to the passage . (the aim is to give students right pronunciation and improve their listening ability. )

Task2. Read the text loudly and make a preparation for answering questions at the same time further understanding of the text.

Task3. Answer these questions in your own words (The aim is to practice students spoken English. Encourage students to answer the questions without looking at books.) Search for the answer for "T" or "F" questions ,general understanding. There will be cooks and porters in every hiking trip, T or F?People going on this trip must be very fit. T or F?

Task 4 Detailed reading and look for the information needed . The ability to get detailed information. (9minutes)How many kinds of accommodation will Adventure 2000 provide? What are they? What will Adventure 2000 do to ensure its guestssafe?

Step3 language points

Explain difficult sentences and use of new phrases in detail with the help of some teaching equipments.(10minutes)

4Homework

.Do exercise 6, 8, 10in the exercise part of the book. This is used to make the students have a further understanding of new words and new grammars.

.write a short passage about your adventure experience or dream.(at least 100 words)

Blackboard design5

In order to make the blackboard design clearly and neatly, I will divide the blackboard into three parts. On the left, Ill write teaching aims; in the middle of the blackboard, there should be important and difficult language points, and on the right, I will write the summary of this whole class.
