Module 5 Unit 4 Making the news

Learning about language

 

ⅠAnalysis of the material and students

This part is about the learning of useful words and structures in this unit. Students are going to review the words and phrases they have learned in the last period. Also, they will be introduced a sentence structure——inverted sentences. In order to avoid the dull learning of grammar, students’ motivation needs to be activated.

 

Ⅱ Teaching Goals

By the end of the class, students can

1. learn some new words and expressions in this unit.

2. command a knowledge of Inverted Sentences.

3. finish a news report with the words, expressions and sentence structures that we have learned in this unit.

ⅤTeaching procedures

Lead-in: In order to write a good news report, we need to command knowledge of words and expressions and sentence structures.

 

Step1: to be a good journalist, one should equip himself with abundant words and expressions.

1. Words & expressions

Task 1: Match the words

Task 2: Fill in the blanks

Evaluation: This task will help students to enhance their understanding of the new words in this passage. And their will get familiar with the usage of the new words.

 

Step2: Our new friend Zhou Yang has to report on an accident happening recently. But he is an inexperienced reporter. We should help him to finish the report.

Task 3:   Watch the video and complete the report with the words that we have learned.

EvaluationThis video can firstly arouse the students’ interest and catch the students’ attention in a very short time. Secondly, it can easily introduce the topic of today’s task to the students and smoothly transit to the sentence structure’s part. And also, this task will help them enhance the use of the new words.

 

Step3: Zhou Yang seems to be not satisfied with the report. He thinks the sentences are quite plain. Maybe we could turn some sentences into more special ones.

 

2. sentence structures —— inverted sentences

Task 4: Turn the news report into a new one with the use of inverted sentences.

Evaluation: This task will help students have a general understanding of inverted sentences. They can master the basic skill of using the sentence structure. And they are also expected to turn sentences into inverted ones.

 

Step4: Zhou Yang says the news report is fairly good, but we should add a title.

Task 5: Add a title to the news report. (It would be better to use the inverted structure.)

In Lushan happened a drowning event

Evaluation: This task will encourage the students to use the inverted sentences by themselves. They will experience the pleasure of adopting the newly-learned sentence structure.

 

Step5: Homework

1. Finish the exercise 3 on P28

2. Use the inverted structures to invent a story.

Evaluation: This step will help students review what have learned in the class and consolidate their knowledge.

 

通过信息化教学在重难点上的突破:

本节课课型为语法新授课。语法一直是学生认为是英语学习中的重难点部分,如果只是平铺直叙地进行语法规则的讲解和练习,学生的接受程度会比较低。本节课通过以“庐山断桥事件”视频导入,并且贯穿整堂课,让倒装句这个语法句型结构有情景依托,有助于学生理解倒装句的使用目的和场景,使得句型结构的使用能够真正落地。
