连接词填空的一个基础知识是：一个完整的句子里，如果有两个以上的子句子，在这些子句子之间要用连接词，表明它们之间的关系（主从或并列关系）.如：
He is a teacher, his home is not far from here.
这个句子中有两个子句子组成：He is a teacher 和his home is not far from here.。他们之间没有连接词，所以是错误的句子。可以改成并列句：
He is a teacher and his home is not far from here.
或者改成定语从句：
He is a teacher,whose home is not far from here.
从以上的例子我们牢记两点:1.子句子之间要连接词2.有几个子句子就有几个谓语。
1. If. 空格后there is... 这是个句子， 再后面.. it is..这个句子前没有连接词，只能在空格上填连接词了。两个句子之间有条件关系，所以用if ...
2. what. 空格后是is , 明显缺个主语，又在介词 of 的后面，所以它是个宾语从句。主句是the nature ...may change.宾语从句缺主语，这里用what.
3. What ..空格后有谓语makes,这是从句的谓语，后面还有一个is 这是主句的系动词，这是个主语从句，缺主语，用what.
4. what. 空格后effects our lives，显然effects是谓语，前面有个is 是主语从句的系动词。这个是表语从句，缺主语用what.
5. that/ which. 空后有谓语may affect,缺主语，空前有先行词areas（领域）在从句做主语，它是个定语从句。缺主语，填that/which
6. how. 空后有谓语 feel. 缺状语，指如何感受，填how
7. how. 空后有谓语operates,它是前面of 的宾语从句，指大脑如何运作，缺状语，填how.主句是we develop...
8. what. And 表并列，和how the brain operate 并列做of 的宾语从句。句子中缺表语。填what.
9. that. 空后有谓语will be. 这是主语从句，从句中不缺意思，不缺成分，填that.
10. that/how 空后有谓语happen. 主句是 I’m pretty sure. 这句可以理解成：我非常肯定这在将来一定会发生（用that引导）根据后面列举的内容也可以理解成：我都能肯定这这将来如何发生。（用how 引导）
11. that/which 这是个定语从句，从句缺少read 的宾语。
12. when. 空后有谓语talk , 这是个从句，主句是people got it wrong. 根据主从句的意思，是“当谈论媒体之间的竞争的时候，人们理解错了。用when 引导时间状语从句。
13. but. 这个空容易出错。空有有谓语。That 在这里不是连接词，而是指示代词，指television would kill off newspapers,的情况，但是这句前面仍然要用连接词，前后有转折的意思，所以用but.
14. what, 空后有is, 是主语从句，缺主语。后面lasts 又是个谓语，这是主句的谓语。
