Teaching aims:

1. Knowledge aims:

(1) Master the usage of some new words: amusement, somewhere;

(2) Master the usage of present perfect tense, such as the usage of “been”.

2. Ability aims:

(1) Can use present perfect tense to talk about things in the past;

(2) Through listening activities, Ss can get the main ideas of simple materials, tell their topics, and get some useful information ;

(3) Can do the self-checking during speaking.

3. Emotional aims:

(1) Can learn something about the museums;

(2) Can improve the confidence of learning English, and not afraid of speaking English.

Key points and difficult point:

Key points: Can use present perfect tense to describe things happened in the past.

Difficult point: Students can express their ideas easily in English, and can do the self-checking during speaking.

Teaching aids: a tape recorder, multimedia, pictures

Teaching methods: The teaching methods will be used in this class include following three methods: Communicative Approach, Task-based Language Teaching, Audio-Lingual Approach.

Teaching procedures:

Step 1 Lead-in

I will play a video about the introduction of Forbidden City in Beijing. Then ask students what is the name of the architecture in this video. Students could speak out the Chinese name of it easily, but for its English version, I will tell it to them after they discussed. And then, ask students:

Do you like to visit this place? And then tell the topic of this lesson is about museum. And Forbidden City is one of the biggest museum in the world.

T: First of all, let’s watch a video. It is about a famous museum, after this video. Tell me where it is….Ok, who can tell me what’s the name of this museum?

S: Gu Gong.

T:Ok, it’s English name is Forbidden city. Do you like to visit this place?

S: Yes, of course.

T: Ok, today we are going to talk about some museums.

Step 2 Pre-listening

(1) I will show some picture about history museum, art museum, space museum, water park, zoo, and amusement park. And lead students to speak out the name of these places. For example:

T: Look at the first picture, where is it? Do you see some animals in the picture? So, where is it?

S: It’s zoo.

T: What can you see in this one?

S: The person is watching some pictures on the wall.

T: So, which museum do you think it is? Art museum or space museum?

S: Art museum.

T: Ok, very good. Now, look at the other pictures, and discuss with your partner which kind of museum they are. Then I will ask some students to tell the answers.

(2) Ask students to finish the task in 1a. according to their interests to rank these places. Then use the following structure to tell your opinion to you partner.

T: Now, I will give some time to finish the task in 1a. after finished, please check answers with your partner with sentences. Then I will ask one students to tell your answers. Are you clear?

S: Yes.

T:Ok, time is up. Then who want to share your answer with us?

S1: The place I want to visit most is art museum, because I want to be an artist in the future.

The place I want to visit least is history museum, because history is very boring.

T: Ok, very good. Now let’s move on to the next step.

Step 3 While-listening

(1) Listen to the tape and check the box if the students ever been to the place. And check your answers with partner. After finished, I will ask some volunteers to tell their answers.

T: Now, let’s do the listening part together. Listen to the tape and check the box if you ever been to this place. And check your answers with partner like this: One student asks “Has … ever been to a …?”, and the other asks “No, she has never been to a ….” or “Yes, she/he has been to a …” Are you clear?

S: Yes.

T: Ok. After finished, I will ask some volunteers to tell their answers. Now, let’s begin.

(2) Then play the tape again, and ask students to read after the record.

T: Now, I will play the record again and you are supposed to read after the record silently. Any questions?

S: No.

T: Ok, now, please listen to the tape. While listening, please pay more attention to the pronunciation and intonation.

Step 4 Post-listening

(1) Read the dialogue first, and make a role play according to the dialogue.

A: Let’s go somewhere different today.

B: OK, where do you want to go?

A: Have you ever been to the space museum?

B: No, I haven’t. How about you?

A: No, I haven’t either. Have you ever been to the art museum?

(2). Read the map of China, and then interview some classmates: Have you ever been to Shanghai/Chongqing/Sichuan Province…? and write down their answers. Then make dialogue with your partner.

T: Now, let’s look at the map on the PPT. This is a map of China. You should interview some of your classmates, and write down their answers into the chart. Please use the sentence structure of present perfect tense. Do you understand?

S: Yes.

T: Now, let’s begin.

S1: Have you ever been to Shanghai?

S2: Yes, I have been to Shanghai twice in the last year.

S1: Have you ever been to Sichuan?

S3: No, I never been there before. But I plan to go there in this summer holiday.

Step 5 Summary and homework

(1). Summary

I will ask students to think about what is the key sentence structures we learnt today. And make a short summary.

(2). Homework

Search on the internet or look up books to find out the information of some museums in you city or province, then write down the introductions of them and share the information in next class.
