同位语(the Appositive),顾名思义,就是名词或名词短语,在句中作某些名词的同位语,对前面的名词作进一步的说明。同位语从句(Revise the Appositive Clause)就是指用一个句子在句中作某些名词的同位语,对前面的名词作进一步的说明。它一般用连词 that(没有词义,不作成分,不能省略)或连接副词how,when, where等引导 ,其前面的名词一般为: news , fact , idea , suggestion , promise,information,message,problem等, 如:

 Everyone knows the fact the earth goes round the sun .( 众所周知地球围绕太阳转.)

 I have no idea when he will be back . (我不知道他什么时间回来.)

同位语从句与定语从句的区别:

1)作用不同。前者是对名词加以补充说明,后者是名词进行修饰和限制;

   (2)结构不同。前者由连词或连接副词引导,后者由关系代词或关系副词引导;

   (3)内涵不同。前者所说明的名词与从句没有逻辑关系,后者所修饰限定的名词是从句逻辑上的主语、宾语、表语、定语、状语等;

   (4)引导同位语从句的连词that不可以省略,而引导定语从句的关系代词that作从句宾语时可以省略。如:We are interested in the news that some foreigners would visit our school.

We are interested in the news( that )he told us

   (5)概念不同。前者如果由连接副词when,where分别引导,那其前面的名词与连接副词在概念上不一致,而后者如果由关系副词when,where分别引导,那其前面分别表示时间、地点的名词与关系副词在概念上要一致。

例如:They have no idea at all where he has gone.(同位语从句)

Go and get your coat. It’s in the place where you left it.(定语从句)
