Teaching Content:

Warming up and Reading Comprehension

Teaching Aims:

1. Learn and master the important words and expressions.

2. Train the students reading ability.

  3. Enable the students to learn what humour means and what is nonverbal humour.

  4. Help the students learn how to describe what nonverbal humour is by Charlie Chaplin’s career.

Teaching Important Points:

  1. Help the students divide the text into several parts according to the meaning of the passage.

  2. Improve the students’ reading ability.

Teaching Difficult Points:

1. Decide the divide of the paragraphs of the text.

2. Help students to learn the Subjunctive Mood.

Teaching Methods:

1.     Fast reading to get a general idea of the text.

2.     Careful reading to get the detailed information.

3.     Asking and answering to help the students understand the text exactly.

Teaching Aids:

Teaching Steps:

Step one: Greetings

  Greet the whole class as usual.

Step two: Lead-in and Revision

1.     Watching a funny video.

2.     Review the new words.

Step three: Warming up

  Talk about some kinds of humour.

Step four: Reading

  1. Listening

Listen and find out the things mentioned in the video.

  1. Fast reading

Read the passage quickly and finish the two tasks.

(1)   Get some information of Charlie Chaplin and fill in the clue map.

(2)   Match the main idea of each paragraph.

  1. Careful Reading

Read the passage careful and finish the two tasks.

(1)   Read the text carefully and decide if the statements are true or false.

(2)   Answer the six questions according to the passage.

  1. Summary

Fill in the blanks.

Step five: Discussion

1.  Why was Chaplin so successful?

2.  What should we learn from him?

Step six: Homework

  Write a composition about Charlie Chaplin in English for the local newspaper.
