Teaching objectives

1. Language aims

By giving some explanations, students will be able to basically understand the

new words and expressions, such as recommend, acknowledge, contradict，

substitute, autonomous, tutor, be occupied with, enterprise.

2. Ability aims

By analyzing the article, most students will be able to discuss the difficulties and

the relative solutions about Xie Lei’s life in England, and help other oversea

students find possible solutions to their problems.

3. Emotional aims

By discussing the difficulties and the solutions to deal with them, students will be

able to cultivate the ability of facing the difficulties，analyzing the reasons，

overcoming and solving the problems by themselves.

Students who want to study abroad will be able to be more motivated in English

learning and improve the awareness of globalization.

Teaching important and difficult points

Students will be able to summarize the difficulties and the possible solutions about Xie Lei’s life in England.

Step 1 pre-reading

1. Show students a diagram about the tendency to study abroad from year 2006-2010.

3. Prediction

T: After collecting some knowledge about studying abroad, now you are going to read a newspaper article about a Chinese student who goes to study in England. What do you think she might find difficult?

Step 2 While-reading

1. New words and expressions (recommend, substitute, tutor, acknowledge, contradict, autonomous, be occupied with, enterprise). Students are supposed to find the specific words in the texts according to the given explanations.
