Analysis of Teaching Material

  The content of my lesson is Book 2 Unit 4 Wildlife protection Reading. This unit is about wildlife protection. By studying of this unit, we’ll help students to learn the useful words and expressions about wildlife protection (wildlife, protection, die out, in danger of, south China tiger, antelope, etc.) and develop students’ reading skills: skimming, scanning, careful reading and retelling as well as help students to know basic knowledge about wildlife protection. At the same time, enable students to form a sense of wildlife protection and motivate students to take an instant action. From this reading lesson, students are expected to learn more than reading. As we all know, reading belongs to the input during the process of the language learning. The input has a great effect on output, such as speaking and writing. Therefore, this lesson is in the important position of this unit. If the students can master it well, it will be helpful for them to learn the rest of this unit.

教学目标

Teaching aims:

Knowledge aim: (1)The students can master the usage of the important words and expressions about wildlife protection.             

(2)The students can understand the content of the lesson, talk about wildlife protection and get their own idea about how to protect the wildlife.

Ability aim:(1) To guide students to set up effective studying strategies.

(2) To improve the student’s reading ability, especially their skimming and scanning ability.

(3) To train the students’ abilities of studying by themselves and cooperating .

Emotional aim: (1)By completing the task, the students increase their interest in wildlife protection and motivate them to take an instant action. 

(2)Teach the students to protect the environment, put the moral education in the language study.

 

教学重难点

The important points are to master the useful words and expressions about wildlife protection, such as wildlife, protection, die out, in danger of, south China tiger, antelope, etc. and to help students to know basic knowledge about wildlife protection.

The difficult points are to develop students’ reading skills: skimming, scanning, careful reading and retelling and to enable students to form a sense of wildlife protection and motivate students to take an instant action.

Step 1 Lead-in

1.A guessing game --Who Am I ”

Give some descriptions of some animals and let the students name them in English.

 

 

Step 2 Pre-reading

Ask students what other endangered animals they know of except South China tiger. And then ask students to think about the reasons why they are in danger of disappearing.

 

 

 

 

 

Step 3 Fast reading

Skimming

1. Let students read quickly and get the main idea of the whole passage.

2. Skim the passage again and find out the main idea of each paragraph and match it with each paragraph.

Then check the answers.

 

Step 4 Careful Reading

Guide students to read the material carefully and take some important notes, then finish the following exercises.

Which three places has she been to? What endangered animals are they? What problems face them?

 

 

 

 

 

Step 5. Comprehending

Task 1. Class activity

Ask the students to finish the class activity Which aspects are mentioned. And then work in groups to make a mind map of Daisys visits.

Task 2. Play a game

Ask the students to play a game--- Whos the luckiest. Students are expected to choose any number and finish the following exercises.

1.Tell true or false.

2. Multiple choice: Whats the main idea of the passage?

3.Put these sentences in the right order.

4. Multiple choice: From the end of the story, we can conclude that         .

5. Retell the story by filling in some blanks.

6. Finish a short passage.

7. Lucky enough to get a chance to watch a short video.

 

Step 6 Group discussion 

What should we do to protect wildlife?

Divide the students into several groups and give them five minutes to think about the topic “What should we do to protect wildlife?”. After the discussion, let the students have a competition to see which group can think out the most pieces of advice to protect wildlife.

Then students present their discussions.

Make a conclusion that when buying stops, the kill can too. Remind the students to start action now.

 

Step 7 Homework
