How to have a writing class

一.Teaching goals

Improve their ability in writing English composition.

二.Teaching important points

How to analyse the directions and catch the main points

What kind of structure is the most suitable and how to make an outline

How to express their thought correctly

三. Teaching difficult point

Chinglish is very common in students, so they should know how to write a basic right sentence.

四. Teaching procedures:

Step 1: Analyse

Analyse the title and master what is wanted. That is to say, they should know what kind of composition is wanted. For example, an invitation, a letter of apology, etc.

Step 2: Give an outline

After analyzing the title, make an outline about your composition. It is better to write in three paragraphs. Each paragraph should be clear and logical.

Step 3: Organize your composition

Use the basic five kinds of sentence structures to write each sentence. If possible, use non-finite verbs and clauses to polish your composition. Each sentence should be concise and easy to understand. And you had better to use some adverbs and conjunctions to make your composition logical, such as however, whats more, last but not least and so on.

Step 4: self-modified and modify

Read again to correct their own mistakes and then change their composition with their classmates to improve their writing ability.

Step 5: Translate

Translate the Chinese model essay into English instead of just read and recite the model essay to improve their write ability.

Ask some students to write their translation on the blackboard and then the teacher check it together with students. And find the difference between their composition and the model essay.

Find the good expression and remember what they think are good.

Step 6: Read and self-modified

Read their composition again and use what they think are good to modify their own composition. The teacher should judge their composition and show the good to the students.
