Class Type Reading and writing

Objectives To read and understand the passage, also the words and phrases in this passage.

To read and try to write a speech.

Key structure 1. You were so full of energy and thirsty for knowledge.

2. You’ve all grown up so much and I’m so proud of you.

3. Never fail to be thankful to people around you.

4. I hope that in a few years’ time, you’ll come back to visit our school.

Procedure

Lead-in Revision.

Let Ss to review the word phrases that learned before.

Step 1 Free talk. 

1. What do you want to say most in the last class in junior high school?

2. What is the most important thing you have learned in junior high school?

Step 2 Show Ss some pictures about the most important thing Ss have learned in junior high school

Step 3 Ask Ss to read the passage and answer the questions.

Step 4 Activity 2c.

Read the passage again and answer the questions. 

1. What were the students like in Grade 7? 

2. How have the students changed? 

3. Who should the students thank and why? 

4. What will senior high be like? 

5. How should the students deal with the future?

Step 5 Free talk.

After answering the questions and then have a discussion:

What advice would you give to students who are just starting junior high school?

Step 6 Show Ss the important advice:

First, try to do your best, no matter in your study or your life. 

Second, care about your classmates. Give your hands to them when they need help.

Last, take part in more practical activities and exercise your ability.

Step 7 Activity 2d.

Show Ss the words and phrases and then ask them to fill in the blanks with the correct forms of the words in the box.

Step 8 Translation.

Read and translate the sentences into Chinese.

Step 9 Discussion.

After reading the speech, ask Ss to think about:

Are there any sentences you like most? Talk with your partner and then give your reasons.

Step 10 Activity 3a.

Think of a person or an event from junior high school that you will never forget.   

Step 11 Activity 3b.

Write a passage about the person or event you thought about in 3a.

Step 12 Give Ss a sample article.

Step 13 Discussion.

Make some notes about how this person or event changed your life in some way. 

Step 14 Language points: explain the key words and phrases in section B-2.

Step 15 More exercises about the language points.
