I.Lead-in

   Enjoy a song The more we get together.

   Good, today we are going to learn how to write a passage. Ask some questions. Let the students answer the questions. To prepare students to write using the target language. Show the objectives.  

II. Presentation

Translate some sentences.

Wang Lingling and Liu Lili are best friends. Look at the chart below and compare them.

Have the students look at the words and in activity 3a on page 23, and elicit which things are the same and which things are different. Note: The context is important.

Tell them how to write a good passage.

Show the simple writing.

Wang Lingling’s straight hair is longer than Liu Lili. Wang Lingling likes reading but LiuLili likes sports. Both of them are popular and outgoing. Wang Lingling is more serious, however, Liu Lili is funnier. Wang Lingling is more hard-working, and Liu Lili is smarter than Wang Lingling.

III. Comparison

Make notes about two of your friends. One friend should be similar to you; the other friend should be different.

A friend who is similar to me and a friend who is different from me.

Write some words about similarities and differences.

My friend A is quite similar to me. We are both tall and thin. We are both quiet and serious. We like reading together. We are hard-working in class, so we often get good grades.  My friend B is different from me. She’s funnier and more outgoing than me. She always speaks loudly. She is good at soccer. She’s smart and she’s a good listener.  

IV. Writing 

Think of your best friend. Write down the ways in which you are similar, and the ways in which you are different. By using comparatives. Tell your partner about things that are the same and different between you and your best friend.

Tina is my best friend. In some ways we are the same. Both of us like sports and are good at our subjects. We both like reading, and we usually go to the library on weekends. But in some ways we are different. She is taller and more athletic than me. She likes gong to the concert, but I like watching TV at home. I only exercise three times a week, but she does exercise every day. I think a true friend reaches for your hand and touches your heat.
