Warming up

1. Greeting. Ask about their weekends with simple past.

2. Pre-teach the words in A1. clue, castle, librarian, statue.

1. Free talk. Talk about their weekends. Students will review simple past questions and answers.

2. Students will understand the words in A1. this will help them complete the text.

Presentation

1. Show students the picture in which a journalist is interviewing Lucy. Explain the word “interview” to students.

2. Play the audio for students to check their answers. Then go through the whole text with the class.

3. Ask students to find simple past questions in the text and underline them.

1. Students look at the picture and try to tell what happens in the picture. Then complete the text.

2. Listen and check their answers. Go through the text with teacher.

3. Try to find the simple past questions and underline them. Then ask and answer in pairs. Teacher needs to walk around to check if they use simple past verbs.

Practice

1. Invite students to guess what teacher did during holiday.

2. Explain the rules for the guessing game. Write down some activities in simple past on the board.

1. Try to guess what students did during holiday.

2. Students play the guess game in pairs. Teacher can write down some activity in simple past tense on the board to support students.

End the lesson

Check students’ writing posture and handwriting.

Write down the simple past questions in the text and the answers.

Reflection

It’s quite difficult for students to change simple present questions into simple past questions.
