Unit 1 How can I get there?

Analysis of Teaching contents.

This lesson is the 2nd lesson of unit 1, it includes let’s try and let’s talk.

And it mainly deals with the key words and phrases as followed: science museum, post office, bookstore, on the left, go straight, at the crossing and so on

And it also deals with some sentence patterns: How can I get there?

Our students have already known how to guide the ways in the daily life. It’s not difficult for them to understand and use these words. If students can learn it well, it will help students to learn the rest of this unit.  So, I set the following aims:

Teaching aims.

● knowledge aims

Students can learn some basic words and expressions to ask and answer about the ways

Ability aims

students can understand the main idea of the listening material and get some detailed information.

also, through the process, they can improve listening and speaking skills

l  Emotional aims

a.  To foster Ss’ consciousness of good-cooperation and proper competition.

b.  let Students be more interested in English learning and not afraid of speaking in public

a.  To enable the Ss master the new phrases and sentence patterns

Difficult points

To help the Ss apply the new expressions flexibly in real practice.

Teaching methods.

As we all know, the main instructional aims of learning English in secondary school is to cultivate Ss abilities of listening and speaking and their good sense of the English language. So in this lesson I’ll mainly use “Task-based” teaching method, “Communication teaching method” and so on. That is to say, I will let the Ss learn in real situations and help them to get a better understanding of the key phrases and patterns. And I will arrange some activities like: high voice and low voice, role play, words competition and so on. 

Teaching procedures and the purpose of my design.

This part is very important. And I will apply 3P mode in my lesson, that is Presentation, Practice and Production. I will finish the lesson in 5 steps.

 

Step1. Warm-up and Lead-in(问候和导入)

After greeting with the Ss, I will invite the students to sing a song called head shoulders knees and toes and move our body together.

Ø  This can make the students more happy and excited and therefore be more concentrated on the class.

Then I will show a picture, it is a map of our school, and I set some questions:

Where is the main building? Where is the library? and How can I get there?

Ø  With the help of picture, Ss can know the topic of this lesson and to perceive the new knowledge.

 

Step 2. Presentation: Listening Activities:

In this part I will play the recorder for twice. For the first time, I ask the students to listen to it briefly and answer my question: How many people are there in the dialogue? What are they talking about?

This step is extensive listening, and the purpose is to let the students grasp the main idea or the topic of listening material.

And then I will play it again. For this time, the second time, I ask the students to listen to it carefully and answer my question: 细节问题

This step aims at rendering students to pay more attention to detailed information. And get more familiar with the listening material, including the new words and sentence patterns.

 

Step 3. PracticeSpeaking activities:

This part is mainly the practice of spoken English.

Firstly, I will play the dialogue again, and ask the students to listen carefully, and read after the recorder for each sentence.

This step can help students to focus on their pronunciation, and give them an accurate demonstration of spoken English.

Then I will lead the students to play a game called high voice and low voice.

Firstly, I will divide the students into two groups, the students can name what they like for their group. For example, group A is called apple group and group B is called orange group.

Then I will prepare some cards on my hand , and there are some key phrases we have learnt today in the class, and I will choose the card at random, when I put the card high, the students should read it loudly, and when I put the card low, students should read it in a low voice. And the faster group will get one point.

This game can help students to remember the phrase by speaking it, and the competition can encourage them to be more positive and competitive, therefore improving their ability of learning.

 

Step 4. Productionrole play, make conversation:

In this step, I will ask the students to make conversation in groups by using the new words, phrases and sentence patterns we have learnt today. And I will write them on the blackboard.

Purpose:

Task-based teaching method is used here to develop students’ ability of communication and their ability of cooperation will be well trained. They can say loudly and freely. They will feel happy and successful during this part. By way of communication, the Ss will understand the meaning of the structure better and master the knowledge firmly.

 

Step 5. Summary and Homework

Firstly, I will ask the students to look at the blackboard and review what we have learnt today, including the key phrases and sentence patterns. Then I will lead the students to think further what others can we learn from the lesson. Like we should…...

Finally, the homework is try to use other words to practice the new sentence patterns in English with parents or friends.

 

The purpose of this is to stimulate the interest of learning English and to broaden the students' knowledge

 

Step 6. Board Design(板书设计)
