            Unit 3 I more outgoing than my sister.

Period 1 1a-1c

 

Teaching objectives

Knowledge objectives: new words and expressions: outgoing, loudly, quietly, better, both...and...

                   sentences: I am more outgoing than my sister.

                            Tina is longer than Tina.

                            Sam has longer hair than Tom.

                            She also sings more loudly than Tara.

Ability objectives: Ss can talk about personal traits and compare people.

Moral objectives: learn more about the differences between you and your friends

 

Teaching key points: use the comparatives to compare people

Teaching difficult points: use is and has properly in comparative sentences.

Teaching procedure:

 

Step 1 Leading in

The teacher play the pictures of Wang Yibo. He is a popular star recently, and the Ss may be interested in him.

T: Who is he?

Ss: Yes, he is Wang Yibo.

T: What does he look like? Does he have long hair?

Ss: No, he has short hair.

(Teacher should blackboard long and short)

 

Step 2 Presentation

Task 1 brainstorm

T: Can you tell me how your parents or friends look like.

S1: My mother has long hair.

S2: My father is quiet.

S3: My friend is very outgoing.

(The teacher should blackboard the new word quiet and outgoing, and encourage the Ss say adj. and adv. as many as possible)

Task 2 work on 1a

T: Match each word with its opposite.

Check the answers together. And ask the Ss to write down more words like this.

Task 3 discuss the picture in 1a in groups

T: You may notice that there are twins in the picture. How many pairs of twins are there in the picture and who are they?

Ss: There are three pairs of twins. Tina and Tara, Sam and Tom, Paul and Peter.

Task 4 work on 1b

Listen to the tape and number the twins in the picture. Ask some students to show their answers. Listen again and have Ss repeat after the tape together.

Task 5 work on 1c

Learn the main sentence patterns

He/She is shorter/heavier/taller/more outgoing

He/She has shorter hair/bigger eyes

 

Step 3 Practice

Task 1

Ask Ss read the sentence patterns in 1c together.

Task 2

Ask Ss work in pairs and give them several minutes to create new sentences. After that, ask some pairs to perform and the teacher should give proper assessment.

 

Step 4 Consolidation

Divide the whole class into 3 groups and ask them to describe and compare their friends or classmates and then do a report.

Example: Peter and Paul are my good friend. Peter has shorter hair than Paul, but Paul is more outgoing than Peter.

The teacher give proper and specific assessments to the three groups.

 

Step 5 Summary

The teacher ask Ss to retell what we have learned today, and summarize the variation rules in adj. and adv. comparatives.

 

Step 6 Homework

Compare yourselves with your friends and then write down your sentences.

 

Blackboard design:

教学反思:

结合学生已有的关于形容词和副词的知识储备进行导入,再经过头脑风暴训练,为本节课的新授内容打下基础。进行听力训练前,先引导学生观察图片,一方面有利于培养学生的观察习惯与能力,另一方面,可降低听力难度。练习部分,进一步巩固本节课所学内容,并突破本节课重难点。
