T: When we were children ,we would like to ask such a question:where do we come from and where would we go?Even we had thought human were made by the god.And today let’s talk about this topic,about our ancestor.Before our lesson ,let me show you a picture.What is it ?

Ss: It is a skull.

T: Can you guess whose skull it may be?

Ss: Peking man’s skull.

T: Yes, you are right.and do you know where we found Peiking Man sites?

Ss:In ZhoukoudianCaves.

T:right.can you tell me something about Peking Man andZhoukoudianCaves?No,Ok the following video can give you some information.

Step 2  Pre-Reading

T:In 1929 we found Peing Man sites in Zhoukoudian Caves.Are you interested in this place?

Ss:Yes.

T:Good,today let’s visit Zhoukoudian caves with a group of students fromEngland. The title of the passage is A visit to Zhoukoudian Caves.Look at the three pictures with the title ,can you guess the main idea of the passage?Here are three choices for you to choose.

Step 3  Reading

Scanning

T: Yes.The passage is about the life of Peking man in Zhoukoudian Caves.Then Whole class turn to Page 38 ,let’s scan the passage and then try to tell the 3 stages of the archaeologist’s part of the dialogue.Two minutes for you.

T:from which paragraph to which paragraph?

S1: From the beginning to paragraph 8.

S2. From paragraph 9 to 15.

S3: It is the rest part.

Skimming

T: In these three stages,we can learn something about Peking Man’s home,tools and dress.Now skim the whole passage then try to say something about these three ways in which the life of early people differs from our modern people. You can discuss with your partner.Another 2 munites.

S1: Peking man lived inZhoukoudianCavesof rocks and trees.

S2: They use needle that is made of bone sharpened stone tools and scraper made by stones.

S3: They wear clothes from animal skins and they also wear necklace made from seashells or animal teeth.

Careful reading

T: Very Good,then how did they live in the caves?how did they make clothes?Now let’s do a careful reading to know more details about the whole passage.And this time I would like you to answer the questions:

1.Why did archaeologists think that Peking Man lived in theZhoukoudianCaves?

2.How did they keep warm?

3.What animals were their most dangerous enemies?

4.How did they make clothes?

5.What can we learn from the necklace they wore?

3 minutes

Whole class,pay attention to the word”perhaps”,that’s an archaeologist qutioning tenique.In the passage,there are many such expressions.Can you find them?

For example,…it is reasonale to assume…This is a very common way that archaeologist will explain something.They will never say:”I know this” because they can not ask the people themselves to see if they were correct.So all archaeologists will be tentative iin their descriptions of life in the past.So they use “we think””it seems”…

 Step 4  Summary

T:Today we have learned a dialogue between an archaeologist and a group of students fromEngland?let’s retell the whole passage by filling  in blanks .

Step 5  Discussion

T:From this passage,we know Peking Man and Mordern people have some similarities also many differences.For example, Peking Man lived in Caves,ate fruit and  animal meat,,wore necklaces made of bone and shells.What do you think of Peking Man’s life?.Do you think it interesting to live like Peking Man?

Discuss in group and share your opinions .

Step 5  Homework

T:Yes as a student. you should study hard and make up your mind to do something to help preserve these cultural sites.
