UNIT 5 Nelson Mandela  Period 1  Warming up

教学重点:

1、Enable students to master the reading skills such as skiming and scanning.

2、Enable students to learn what happened to Elias and how Mandela helped him.

3、Enable students to learn the black's rights andlife.

4、Enable students to further understand some new words and expressions in this passage and help students understand some special sentence structures.

教学难点:

1、Let students find out the development of the story and grasp the details of the two characters.

2、Get students to understand the structures and meaning of some difficult sentences.

1) It was in 1952 and Mandela was the black lawyer to whom I went for advice.

2) He was generous with his time, for which I was grate for.

3) ……only then did we decide to answer violence with violence.

教学过程:

Step1. Lead in

 T: Have you ever heard a song which wrriten by Huangjiaju? Its Chinese name is “光辉岁月”. Do you know about it? Ok, some of you say yes. Some of you say no. It doesn't matter. Let's first enjoy it. 

  Ss: Yes.

Enjoy the beautiful song with students.( Whlie playing the vedio, show part of the lyric.)

 T: Can you guess who this song is about? Let me give you more information about him on the screen. Who can read it for us?

 S1: He was the first black President of South African. He was former President of Afrcan National Congress.

 S2: He fought for the black people and was in prison for thirsty years. He helped the black people to get the same rights as the white people.

 T: Excellent. Have you got any idea of who is it?

Step2. Reading

1. Skimming

 Ask students to finish the comprehending of the workbook.

2、Scanning

Ask students to read the passege and finish the chart of the text book.

Step3. Consolidation

T: Today we read a passage about Mandela and Elias. You have done a good job in understandingit. Let's go over what we learnt.

Step4. Post- reading.
